Type genus: ¤ Alcanivorax Yakimov et al. 1998.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Alcanivorax -acis, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Alcanivoracaceae, the Alcanivorax family.
