Type species: ¤ Alkalibaculum bacchi Allen et al. 2010.
Etymology: Arabic n. al-qaliy, the ashes of saltwort; N.L. n. alkali, alkali; L. neut. n. baculum, stick; N.L. neut. n. Alkalibaculum, alkali stick.

Alkalibaculum bacchi Allen et al. 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain CP11 = ATCC BAA-1772 = DSM 22112.

Etymology: L. gen. n. bacchi, of Bacchus, Roman god of wine, referring to the production of ethanol by this organism.
