Type species: ¤ Alkalimonas amylolitica Ma et al. 2007.
Etymology: N.L. n. alkali (from Arabic al-qaliy), ashes of salt wort; Gr. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Alkalimonas, alkaline monad.

Etymology: Gr. n. amulon, starch; N.L. adj. lyticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. lutikos -ê -on), able to loose, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. amylolytica, starch dissolving.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. delamerensis, pertaining to Delamere estates, which include Lake Elmenteita (the source of the type strain), Kenya.
