Allorhizobium de Lajudie et al. 1998, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Allorhizobium undicola de Lajudie et al. 1998.
Etymology: Gr. adj. allos, another, other, different; N.L. neut. n. Rhizobium, a bacterial generic name; N.L. neut. n. Allorhizobium, the other Rhizobium, to refer to the fact that it is phylogenetically separate from other Rhizobium species.

---> ¤ Rhizobium Frank 1889 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Young et al. 2001.

Note: Young et al. 2001 propose to transfer ¤ Allorhizobium undicola de Lajudie et al. 1998 (the type species of the genus Allorhizobium) to the genus ¤ Rhizobium as ¤ Rhizobium undicola (de Lajudie et al. 1998) Young et al. 2001, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Allorhizobium to ¤ Rhizobium.

Allorhizobium undicola de Lajudie et al. 1998, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain ORS 992 = ATCC 700741 = CIP 105883 = LMG 11875.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: Y17047.
Etymology: L. n. unda, water; L. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola) dweller; N.L. n. undicola, water dweller, referring to the isolation of these strains from nodules of the aquatic plant Neptunia natans.
