Type species: ¤ Aminobacterium colombiense Baena et al. 1999.
Etymology: N.L. n. aminum (amino in compound words involving chemicals), amine; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Aminobacterium, the amino acid rod.

Etymology: N.L. neut. adj. colombiense, pertaining to Columbia, the origin of the isolate.
