Type species: ¤ Amorphosporangium auranticolor Couch 1963 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. adj. amorphos, without form, shapeless; N.L. neut. n. sporangium (from Gr. n. spora, a seed and, in biology, a spore; Gr. n. angeion, vessel), sporangium; N.L. neut. n. Amorphosporangium, irregularly shaped sporangium.

According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Amorphosporangium to ¤ Actinoplanes.
