Etymology: Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer, air: Gr. fem. n. rhabdos, rod; N.L. fem. n. Anaerohabdus, rod-shaped bacterium not living in air.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. furcosa, full of forks, forked (pertaining to cell shape).
