Etymology: Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer, air: Gr. fem. n. rhabdos, rod; N.L. fem. n. Anaerohabdus, rod-shaped bacterium not living in air.

Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain ATCC 25662 = VPI 3253.

Basonym: ¤ Bacteroides furcosus (Veillon and Zuber 1898) Hauduroy et al. 1937 (Approved Lists 1980).
Other synonyms: "Bacillus furcosus" Veillon and Zuber 1898, "Fusiformis furcosus" (Veillon and Zuber 1898) Topley and Wilson 1929, "Ristella furcosa" (Veillon and Zuber 1898) Prévot 1938, "Pseudobacterium furcosum" (Veillon and Zuber 1898) Krasil'nikov 1949.
Etymology:  L. fem. adj. furcosa, full of forks, forked (pertaining to cell shape).
