Anaerovibrio Hungate 1966, genus.
Type species: ¤ Anaerovibrio lipolyticus corrig. Hungate 1966 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer aeros, air; L. v. vibro, to set in tremulous motion, move to and fro, vibrate; N.L. masc. n. vibrio, that which vibrates, and also a bacterial genus name of bacteria possessing a curved rod shape (Vibrio); N.L. masc. n. Anaerovibrio, vibrio not living in air.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. burkinensis, pertaining to Burkina Faso, the place from which the organism was isolated.

Etymology: N.L. n. glycerinum, glycerine, glycerol; N.L. gen. n. glycerini, of glycerol, referring to utilization of glycerol as sole substrate.

Etymology: Gr. n. lipos, fat; N.L. masc. adj. lyticus (from Gr. masc. adj. lutikos), able to loose, able to dissolve; N.L. masc. adj. lipolyticus, fat-dissolving.
