Type species: ¤ Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens Bryant and Small 1956 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. adj. butyricus, butyric; L. v. vibro, to vibrate; N.L. n. vibrio, that which vibrates, and also a bacterial genus name of bacteria possessing a curved rod shape (Vibrio); N.L. masc. n. Butyrivibrio, a butyric vibrio.
