Etymology: Gr. n. aktis -inos, ray; L. n. catena, chain; Gr. fem. n. spora, seed, and in biology a spore; N.L. fem. n. Actinocatenispora, spore chain-producing ray (fungus).

Etymology: L. gen. n. rupis, of a cliff, referring to the site from which the type strain was isolated.
