Type species: ¤ Altererythrobacter epoxidivorans Kwon et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. adj. alter -tera -terum, another, other, different; N.L. masc. n. Erythrobacter, a genus name; N.L. masc. n. Altererythrobacter, another or different Erythrobacter, because the genus shows high similarity to the genus Erythrobacter but does not share its phyletic line.
