Type genus: ¤ Bacteroides Castellani and Chalmers 1919 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Bacteroides, type genus of the order; suff. - ales, ending to denote an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Bacteroidales, the Bacteroides order.
