Type species: ¤ Belliella baltica Brettar et al. 2004.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Belliella, named in honour of the aquatic microbiologist Russell Bell (University of Uppsala).

Belliella pelovolcani Arun et al. 2009, sp. nov.

Etymology: Gr. n. pelos, mud; L. n. Volcanus, god of fire; here intended to mean a volcano; N.L. gen. n. pelovolcani, of a mud-volcano, from which the type strain was isolated.
