Type species: ¤ Butyricicoccus pullicaecorum Eeckhaut et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum butyricum, butyric acid; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Butyricicoccus, coccoid-shaped bacterium that produces butyrate.
Reference: EECKHAUT (V.), VAN IMMERSEEL (F.), TEIRLYNCK (E.), PASMANS (F.), FIEVEZ (V.), SNAUWAERT (C.), HAESEBROUCK (F.), DUCATELLE (R.), LOUIS (P.) and VANDAMME (P.): Butyricicoccus pullicaecorum gen. nov., sp. nov., an anaerobic, butyrate-producing bacterium isolated from the caecal content of a broiler chicken.
