Type species: ¤ Caenimonas koreensis Ryu et al. 2008.
Etymology: L. n. caenum, mud, sludge; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Caenimonas, monad isolated from sludge.

Caenimonas koreensis Ryu et al. 2008, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain EMB320 = DSM 17982 = KCTC 12616.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: DQ349098.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. koreensis, pertaining to Korea, where the type strain was isolated.
