Etymology: L. adj. caldus, hot; L. fem. n. monas, unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Caldimonas hot (heat-loving) monad.

Caldimonas manganoxidans Takeda et al. 2002, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain HS = ATCC BAA-369 = IFO (now NBRC) 16448 = JCM 10698.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AB008801.
Etymology: N.L. n. manganum, manganese; N.L. v. oxido (from Gr. adj. oxus, acid or sour and in combined words indicating oxygen), to oxidize; N.L. part. adj. manganoxidans, manganese-oxidizing.

Caldimonas taiwanensis Chen et al. 2005, sp. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain On1 = BCRC 17405 = LMG 22827.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. taiwanensis, pertaining to Taiwan, where the type strain was isolated.
