Type species: ¤ Chelonobacter oris Gregersen et al. 2009.
Etymology: Gr. n. chelone -es, a tortoise; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Chelonobacter, rod isolated from tortoise.

Etymology: L. n. os oris, mouth; L. gen. n. oris, of/from the mouth.
