Chrysiogenes Macy et al. 1996, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Chrysiogenales Garrity and Holt 2002; type genus of the family ¤ Chrysiogenaceae Garrity and Holt 2002).
Type species: ¤ Chrysiogenes arsenatis Macy et al. 1996.
Etymology: Gr. n. chruseion, a gold mine; N.L. suff. -genes (from Gr. v. gennaô, to beget, engender, bear), sprung from, born from; N.L. masc. n. Chrysiogenes, sprung from a gold mine.

Chrysiogenes arsenatis Macy et al. 1996, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. arsenatis, of arsenate, referring to the ability of the organism to reduce arsenate to arsenite.
