Chthonomonas Lee et al. 2011, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Chthonomonadales Lee et al. 2011; type genus of the family ¤ Chthonomonadaceae Lee et al. 2011).
Type species: ¤ Chthonomonas calidirosea Lee et al. 2011.
Etymology: Gr. n. chthōn chthonos, earth, soil, land; Gr. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Chthonomonas, a unit (bacterium) from soil.
