Deinococcales Rainey et al. 1997, ord. nov. (Type order of the class ¤ Deinococci Garrity and Holt 2002).
Type genus: ¤ Deinococcus Brooks and Murray 1981.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Deinococcus, type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Deinococcales, the Deinococcus order.
