Type species: ¤ Desulfitibacter alkalitolerans Nielsen et al. 2006.
Etymology: L. pref. de, from, off, away; N.L. n. sulfis -itis, sulfite; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Desulfitibacter, rod-shaped bacterium that reduces sulfite.
