Dinoroseobacter Biebl et al. 2005, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Dinoroseobacter shibae Biebl et al. 2005.
Etymology: Gr. n. dinos, whirling, rotation, and the first compound of the Protozoan name Dinophyceae (dinoflagellates), the source from which the isolates were obtained; N.L. masc. n. Roseobacter, a bacterial genus; N.L. masc. n. Dinoroseobacter, a Roseobacter-like organism originating from dinoflagellates.

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. shibae, of Shiba, named after Professor Tsuneo Shiba, who discovered the marine aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria and provided fundamental contributions to the description of this physiological group of bacteria.
