Etymology: Gr. prep. ectos, outside; Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. n. rhodon, rose; L. masc. n. sinus, a bending, curve, fold; N.L. masc. n. Ectothiorhodosinus, red curved rod with extracellular sulfur.
