Type species: ¤ Fervidicella metallireducens Ogg and Patel 2010.
Etymology: L. adj. fervidus, glowing, hot, burning; L. fem. n. cella, a storeroom, chamber, and, in biology, a cell; N.L. fem. n. Fervidicella, a glowing cell, a thermophile.

Etymology: L. n. metallum, metal; L. part. adj. reducens, leading back, bringing back, and, in chemistry, converting to a different oxidation state; N.L. part. adj. metallireducens, reducing metal.
