Fervidicola Ogg and Patel 2009, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Fervidicola ferrireducens Ogg and Patel 2009.
Etymology: L. adj. fervidus, glowing, burning; L. suff. -cola (from L. masc. or fem. n. incola) inhabitant, dweller; N.L. masc. n. Fervidicola, inhabitant of thermal waters, a thermophilic bacterium.

Fervidicola ferrireducens Ogg and Patel 2009, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain Y170 = DSM 21121 = JCM 15106 = KCTC 5610.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: EU443728.
Etymology: L. n. ferrum, iron; L. part. adj. reducens, leading back, bringing back and in chemistry converting to a different oxidation state; N.L. part. adj. ferrireducens, reducing Fe(III) to Fe(II).
