Type species: ¤ Filobacillus milosensis corrig. Schlesner et al. 2001.
Etymology: L. neut. n. filum, thread; L. masc. n. bacillus, rod; N.L. masc. n. Filobacillus, a thread-like rod.

Filobacillus milosensis corrig. Schlesner et al. 2001, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain SH 714 = ATCC 700960 = CIP 107088 = DSM 13259 = JCM 12288.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AJ238042.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. milosensis, from the island Milos, Greece, where the organism was isolated.
