Type species: ¤ Flavitalea populi Wang et al. 2011.
Etymology: L. adj. flavus, yellow; L. fem. n. talea, a slender staff, a rod; N.L. fem. n. Flavitalea, a yellow-coloured rod.

Flavitalea populi Wang et al. 2011, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain HY-50R = CCTCC AB 208255 = NRRL B-59222.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: HM130561.
Etymology: L. gen. n. populi, of a poplar, pertaining to Populus, the genus name of the poplar trees that grow in the forest the strain was isolated from.
