Type species: ¤ Gallaecimonas pentaromativorans Rodríguez-blanco et al. 2010.
Etymology: L. n. Gallaecia, the country of the Gallaeci, now Galicia, a region of north-west Spain; L. fem. n. monas, a monad, unit; N.L. fem. n. Gallaecimonas, single microbe isolated from Galicia.

Etymology: Gr. numeral pente, five; L. n. aroma -atis, spice; L. v. voro, to devour; N.L. part. adj. pentaromativorans, degrading/devouring aromatic compounds with five rings.
