Gallicola Ezaki et al. 2001, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Gallicola barnesae (Schiefer-Ullrich and Andreesen 1986) Ezaki et al. 2001.
Etymology: L. n. gallus, rooster/chicken; L. masc. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola), inhabitant, dweller; N.L. masc. n. Gallicola, inhabitant of chickens, referring to the isolation of the type species from chicken feces.

Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain HKB-5 = ATCC 49795 = DSM 3244.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AB038361.
Basonym: ¤ Peptostreptococcus barnesae Schiefer-Ullrich and Andreesen 1986.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. barnesae, of Barnes, named after E.M. Barnes, a microbiologist.

Note: According to Rules 27(3) and 30, this name is not validly published because the effective publication only documents deposit of the type strain in a single recognized culture collection. However, according to the Judicial Opinion 81, Gallicola barnesae (Schiefer-Ullrich and Andreesen 1986) Ezaki et al. 2001 is to be considered to be validly published.
