Geodermatophilus Luedemann 1968, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Geodermatophilaceae Normand 2006).
Type species: ¤ Geodermatophilus obscurus Luedemann 1968 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. , earth; Gr. n. derma -atos, skin; N.L. masc. adj. philus (from Gr. masc. adj. philos), friend, loving; N.L. masc. n. Geodermatophilus, (bacteria) loving earth and skin (a group of microorganisms that live in the soil, yet that love the skin, by analogy to the genus Dermatophilus, the actinobacterial genus causing a skin disease, that has similar morphological features).
