Type species: ¤ Halobellus clavatus Cui et al. 2011.
Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; L. masc. adj. bellus, beautiful; N.L. masc. n. Halobellus, beautiful salt organism.
Reference: CUI (H.L.), YANG (X.), GAO (X.) and XU (X.W.): Halobellus clavatus gen. nov., sp. nov. and Halorientalis regularis gen. nov., sp. nov., two new members of the family Halobacteriaceae. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2011, 61, 2682-2689.

Halobellus clavatus Cui et al. 2011, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain TNN18 = CGMCC 1.10118 = JCM 16424.

Etymology: L. part. adj. clavatus, furnished with points or nails intended, here, to mean club-shaped.
