Intrasporangium Kalakoutskii et al. 1967, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Intrasporangiaceae Rainey et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Intrasporangium calvum Kalakoutskii et al. 1967 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: L. prep. intra, within; N.L. n. sporangium [from Gr. n. spora, a seed (and in biology a spore), and Gr. n. angeion (Latin transliteration angium), vessel], sporangium; N.L. neut. n. Intrasporangium, a name coined to emphasize the possibility of intercalary formation of sporangia in mycelial filaments.
