Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Kaistella, arbitrary name after KAIST, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

Note: Kämpfer et al. 2009 propose to transfer Kaistella koreensis Kim et al. 2004 (the type species of the genus Kaistella) to the genus ¤ Chryseobacterium Vandamme et al. 1994 as ¤ Chryseobacterium koreense (Kim et al. 2004) Kämpfer et al. 2009, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Kaistella to ¤ Chryseobacterium.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. koreensis, pertaining to Korea, from where the organisms were isolated.
