Etymology: Gr. n. kinesis, motion; L. fem. n. sphaera, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Kineosphaera, a motile sphere.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. limosa, muddy, pertaining to sludge, the natural habitat of the species.
