Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Labrenzia, from the name Labrenz, honouring Dr Matthias Labrenz, a German marine microbiologist who described many interesting bacterial isolates from hypersaline Ekho Lake, Antarctica, including three new genera of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs, using a polyphasic approach.
