Lachnospira Bryant and Small 1956, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Lachnospiraceae Rainey 2010).
Type species: ¤ Lachnospira multipara corrig. Bryant and Small 1956 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. lachnos, wool; L. fem. n. spira a coil; N.L. fem. n. Lachnospira, named for the filamentous or “wooly” colonies formed in agar by curved or helical cells of Lachnospira multipara.
