Type species: ¤ Leeia oryzae Lim et al. 2007.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Leeia, named after Keho Lee, a Korean microbiologist who devoted his life to the study of food micro-organisms.

Leeia oryzae Lim et al. 2007, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain HW7 = DSM 17879 = KCTC 12585.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: DQ280369.
Etymology: L. gen. n. oryzae, of rice, referring to the rice-paddy fields where the strain was isolated.
