Type species: ¤ Luteolibacter pohnpeiensis Yoon et al. 2008.
Etymology: L. adj. luteolus, pale yellow; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Luteolibacter, a pale-yellow-coloured rod.

Etymology: L. fem. gen. n. algae, of an alga, referring to the source of isolation of the type strain.
