Etymology: N.L. masc. n. meniscus (from Gr. masc. n. mêniskos), lunar crescent, crescent moon.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. glaucopis (from Gr. adj. glaukôpis) gleaming-eyed (an epithet of the warlike goddess Athena), perhaps a reference to the presence of refractile gas vacuoles.
