Type species: ¤ Neptuniibacter caesariensis Arahal et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. adj. Neptunius, Neptunian, pertaining to Neptune, Roman god of the sea; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Neptuniibacter, a Neptunian rod, referring to the habitat of the bacteria.

Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain MED92 = CCUG 52065 = CECT 7075.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AY136116.
Etymology: L. masc. adj. caesariensis, pertaining to Caesaria, as the isolate was found close to the Roman city Caesaria maritima, south of Haifa in present day Israel.
