Nitriliruptor Sorokin et al. 2009, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Nitriliruptorales Sorokin et al. 2009; type genus of the family ¤ Nitriliruptoraceae Sorokin et al. 2009).
Type species: ¤ Nitriliruptor alkaliphilus Sorokin et al. 2009.
Etymology: N.L. n. nitrilum, nitrile, nitrile group; L. masc. n. ruptor, breaker; N.L. masc. n. nitriliruptor, nitrile-breaker.

Etymology: N.L. n. alkali, soda ash; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. adj. alkaliphilus, alkali-loving.
