Type species: ¤ Oligella urethralis (Lautrop et al. 1970) Rossau et al. 1987.
Etymology: Gr. adj. oligos, little, not copious, scanty; L. dim. ending -ella, little; N.L. fem. dim. n. Oligella, intended to mean a small bacterium with limited nutritional properties.
