1 The type strain (NCTC 10204) of Pasteurella multocida subsp. gallicida is not the type strain (NCTC 10322) of Pasteurella gallicida (Burrill 1883) Buchanan 1925 (Approved Lists 1980). Moreover, the name Pasteurella gallicida is placed on the list of rejected names (See: ¤ Pasteurella gallicida). Therefore, Pasteurella multocida subsp. gallicida is a new subspecies, not a new combination.
2 The subspecific epithet gallinicida (L. n. gallina, a hen, not gallus, a cock, not Gallus, name of a genus of birds) seems better than gallicida.
