Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain EX-H2 = DSM 14351 = OCM 795.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AF385630.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. guaymasensis, pertaining to the Guaymas Basin, Mexico, to depict the place of isolation.
Reference: GÖTZ (D.), BANTA (A.), BEVERIDGE (T.J.), RUSHDI (A.I.), SIMONEIT (B.R.T.) and REYSENBACH (A.L.): Persephonella marina gen. nov., sp. nov. and Persephonella guaymasensis sp. nov., two novel thermophilic hydrogen-oxidizing microaerophiles from deep-sea hydrothermal vents. Persephonella hydrogeniphila Nakagawa et al. 2003, sp. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain 29W = DSM 15103 = JCM 11663.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AB086419.
Etymology: N.L. n. hydrogenum (from Gr. n. hudôr, water; and Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), hydrogen (that which produces water, so called because it forms water when exposed to oxygen); N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj. hydrogeniphila, hydrogen-loving, because growth depends on hydrogen.
