Rubrobacter Suzuki et al. 1989, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Rubrobacterales Rainey et al. 1997; type genus of the family ¤ Rubrobacteraceae Rainey et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Rubrobacter radiotolerans (Yoshinaka et al. 1973) Suzuki et al. 1989.
Etymology: L. adj. ruber -bra -brum, red; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Rubrobacter, red rod.
