Type species: ¤ Saccharibacillus sacchari Rivas et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. n. Saccharum, a botanical genus name; L. masc. n. bacillus, a small staff or rod; N.L. masc. n. Saccharibacillus, a small rod isolated from Saccharum officinarum, sugar cane.

Saccharibacillus kuerlensis Yang et al. 2009, sp. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain HR1 = CGMCC 1.6964 = JCM 14865 = KCTC 13182.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: EU046270.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. kuerlensis, pertaining to Kuerle, a city of Xinjiang Province in the north-west of China where the type strain was isolated.

Etymology: L. gen. n. sacchari, of sugar, referring to the isolation source of the type strain, inner tissues of sugar cane.
