Type species: ¤ Salana multivorans Von Wintzingerode et al. 2001.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Salana, named after the River Saale in Germany, the source of the bioreactor culture.

Etymology: L. adj. multus, many, numerous; L. v. vorare, to devour, swallow; N.L. part. adj. multivorans, devouring many, referring to the utilization of numerous kinds of substrates.
