Etymology: L. fem. pl. n. salinae, salt-works, salterns; N.L. suff. -cola (from Latin noun incola), inhabitant; N.L. masc. n. Salinicola, inhabitant of salterns.

1 For the transfer of ¤ Chromohalobacter salarius Aguilera et al. 2007 to the genus Salinicola Anan'ina et al. 2008, it is necessary to substitute a new specific epithet because there is an earlier homonym, ¤ Salinicola salarius (Kim et al. 2007) de la Haba et al. 2010, comb. nov.
2 In the Notification List published in the July 2010 issue of IJSEM, the entry Salinicola halophilus de la Haba et al. 2010 (basonym Chromohalobacter salarius Aguilera et al. 2007) is erroneously given as Salinicola halophilus (Aguilera et al. 2007) de la Haba et al. 2010.
