Type genus: ¤ Shewanella MacDonell and Colwell 1986.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Shewanella, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Shewanellaceae, the Shewanella family.
