Note: According to Takeuchi et al. 2001 the type species of the genus Sphingopyxis [¤ Sphingopyxis macrogoltabida (Takeuchi et al. 1993) Takeuchi et al. 2001] is a later homotypic synonym of ¤ Sphingomonas macrogoltabidus Takeuchi et al. 1993. However, Yabuuchi et al. 2002 consider that the type species of the genus Sphingopyxis should be placed in the genus ¤ Sphingomonas. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal may no longer use the genus name Sphingopyxis, whereas those who adhere to the taxonomic interpretation of Takeuchi et al. 2001 may continue to use the genus name Sphingopyxis.
